Mayo village wall project progressing to a satisfactory finish

THE Turlough Round Tower and church cemetery roadside wall build is progressing to a very satisfactory finish, and Turlough Archaeological and Heritage Society are pleased with the progress to date.

The society wishes to thank people for their donations and offers thanks also to Turlough Community Development Association for their very generous contribution towards the project.

However, there is a significant shortfall in funding to finish the present phase of the project.

It is hoped, depending on finances, that the sod bank at the roadside south end of the cemetery will continue with a matching stone wall. Donations towards the project are welcomed.

Mayo County Council engineer Ann Sweeney has visited the site to view the progress, and she met with members of Turlough Archaeological and Heritage Society and stone mason Jimmy Burke while there.
