QUIT west team there to help Mayo people stop smoking

STOPPING smoking is one of the most important things you can do to improve your health this new year. For people living with chronic conditions, such as COPD, asthma, stroke or diabetes, quitting smoking can have a really positive impact on health and wellbeing.

With the right support and information, your chances of stopping smoking successfully are greatly increased. This is where the QUIT Smoking West Service can help.

This free service, provided by HSE Stop Smoking Advisors, offers confidential support and advice to help you stop smoking.

Over six sessions the Stop Smoking Advisor will:

· Explore habits and any concerns you have about stopping smoking

· Assess your level of smoking addiction

· Provide support to deal with challenges

· Discuss stop smoking medications

The QUIT Smoking West Service is available to anyone interested in quitting in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. You will be matched with a Stop Smoking Advisor in your area that can support you by telephone or video call, whichever suits you best. In-person clinics will also resume once public health guidelines allow.

Quitting can be extremely difficult. But by working with them, the team will support you to develop a plan to help you to cope with withdrawal symptoms and cravings, and provide you with motivational tips to help keep you on track.

Those who have already availed of the QUIT Smoking West Service have described it as 'very professional and approachable', and said it was good 'to know I had someone at the end of the phone to support me'. They found the support and encouragement really beneficial in helping them to successfully stop smoking - “I found the whole experience excellent and the support and encouragement brilliant.”
