In a tribute to the deceased, the Fianna Fáil organisation in Achill said it was with great sadness they learned of the passing of a great friend and party stalwart, Gerry Fadian.

"Gerry was 89 years old at the time of passing and it is fair to say that for 85 of those years he was a dedicated servant to the Fianna Fáil organisation.

"Gerry worked tirelessly throughout his life for the party and for the betterment of Achill and its community.

"Gerry served in many roles in the organisation throughout the years and was the current honorary president of the organisation.

"He was one of the backbones of Achill Fianna Fáil for many decades and his influence on the organisation cannot be overstated.

"Gerry was the very essence of what the Fianna Fáil party stands for. He was principled, dedicated and was always willing to help in whatever manner that was needed.

"But above all of these, Gerry was a gentleman.

"His loss to the organisation and indeed to the parish of Achill will be immense. He will be missed by all.

"The entire Achill Fianna Fáil organisation would like to extend its deepest sympathy to his wife Bernie, his daughters Mary and Anne, his sons Tommy and John, to his grandchildren, to his extended family and all his many friends and neighbours
