Mayo author Tom Heneghan launches his new book

TOM Heneghan, a native of Donamona, Clogher, now living in Dublin, is the author of several books and although he has lived outside Mayo for many years, Tom’s feet are firmly planted in his native county.

Tom’s latest book, Life Is A Mystery, is a collection of stories, humorous, nostalgic and reminiscent of other times in Ireland.

Once I took up Tom’s book I became glued to it. The reader will readily identify with the times, many of its characters and settings. One of the advantages of the book is that it is written in a very simple manner.

An example of Tom’s down to earth writing is this excerpt from one of his stories about the old hat factory on Newport Road, Castlebar, which goes as follows: “I had been wearing a peaked cap for some time when one day I turned it over to see where it was made.

"To my surprise it read, Made in Castlebar. I attended school right beside the hat factory but being young I took no notice of it. Many a farmer wore a peaked cap but never knew where they were made. Then again they would hardly be manufactured in a jam factory. The peaked cap is still going strong today.”

The above quotation is a short piece from one of the many delightful stories in Life Is A Mystery, by Tom Heneghan.

The book is for sale in Castle Book Shop, Castle Street, Castlebar, or in Easons, Main Street, Castlebar.
