Time to develop north Mayo when new N5 is completed

by Auld Stock

GREAT to read in The Connaught Telegraph where work on the N5 road will be completed towards the end of October next.

This is one of the largest roadworks ever undertaken in the west of Ireland and will transform a huge section of the landscape of County Mayo, particularly the region around Castlebar, Westport and Newport.

Hopefully elected representatives from those towns will meet on a regular basis to discuss the pros and cons of the new highway and the manner in which to use it to the maximum benefit for the three towns.

It’s now time to fully develop the N26 which is of major importance to the people of north Mayo.

Many people maintain north Mayo is being neglected by central government.

The sooner Deputy Dara Calleary resumes his place around the cabinet table, the better for Ballina and surrounding towns and villages.

A seat around the cabinet table is of great benefit to a town and its surrounding areas.

No one in Mayo wants to divide our county into two separate entities. This would be an absolute disaster for County Mayo and its people.

So let the government get cracking on work to develop the N26.

It’s the least the people of north Mayo deserve.
