The Michael Davitt Museum in Straide.

Planning granted for new Michael Davitt visitor centre

A NEW visitor centre is to be developed at the Michael Davitt Museum in Straide.

Planning permission for the standalone centre has been granted by Mayo County Council.

The centre will complement and expand the visitor experience of the Michael Davitt Museum.

It will be built in an area to the northwest of the museum, adjacent to the boundary with the Church of St. Peter and Paul in the village.

The building will be an extension of the museum to provide a space for lectures/seminars, which currently take place in the museum. There is an existing temporary building beside the museum, and its function will be absorbed by the new building.

A comprehensive archaeological report of the historic site was submitted to council planners as part of the application by Mayo North East Leader Partnership Company.
