Mayo planning obstacles in addressing derelict sites problem cited

The planning system in Mayo is proving an obstacle when trying to redevelop derelict sites, an elected representative has observed.

Councillor Richard Finn said developers are hit with planning conditions in respect of parking, size of properties and units.

He said council planners need to acknowledge that these were not greenfield sites and there has to be some leniency and help to get them developed.

Mayo County Council is conducting a review of derelict sites in the Claremorris and Swinford municipal districts.
