Businesses in south Mayo town to fund CCTV system

BUSINESS people in Claremorris are putting up funding for CCTV in the town.

There has been concern about isolated incidents of anti-social behaviour, and a request was made at council level in recent weeks for support for a camera system.

Councillor Richard Finn highlighted the local proactive attitude to deal with issues when he told yesterday's (Monday) meeting of Mayo County Council that he had been informed that local business people are putting up funding for CCTV.

That, he said, is 'typical of Claremorris'.

The incidents of anti-social behaviour, he said, boiled down to six or seven people and he has been in contact with the garda authorities about the incidents.
