Mayo volleyball teams back on the courts

SINCE the pandemic began no sports were hampered more than indoor sports like volleyball and earlier progress with developing young players was disrupted for a considerable period of time.

However, Mayo Volleyball had plenty to be pleased about as the first underage blitz of the calendar year kicked off last weekend in the UL Sports Arena in Limerick. Along with their Under 15 team, Mayo were able to enter their newly formed Under 10s team for the first ever time.

The Volleyball Ireland event hosted many clubs, including Dalkey, Galway, Limerick, Clare, Ballymun and Cork.

Mayo Volleyball coach Mikal O'Boyle said: "After a period of trainings it was great to finally give the girls a competitive match situation. My fellow coaches, Kevin Concannon, John James Fleming, and I are delighted with the progress the young girls have shown. We get to see their improvements week on week in their trainings in Aghamore and Barnacarroll. It is great to see the girls have the opportunity to put their skills to use in a competitive setting against the best underage sides around the country."
