Ten Mayo projects benefit from €96k heritage funding

A Mayo TD has confirmed investment of over €96,000 in heritage projects across Mayo.

Deputy Dara Calleary has welcomed the funding for the following:

Church of St. Charles the Martyr Hollymount €13,500.

The Old Rectory Westport €13,400;.

Bridge House Westport €12,100.

Ballina Presbyterian Church €10,000.

Church of Ireland Foxford €10,000.

Ballinrobe House €10,000.

Ballyglass Lighthouse €8,000.

Raheens Obelisk €6,500.

Ballina Church of Ireland €6,500.

Creagh House Ballinrobe €6,000.

He stated: "This funding will assist the owners and custodians of these historic and protected structures across the county.

"The funding will allow for conservation works to our built heritage, to help safeguard it for future generations.

"These awards will provide an economic stimulus in Mayo providing employment to small businesses, skilled conservation specialists and tradespeople, ensuring a continued focus on the traditional crafts – all of which help to deliver on Heritage Ireland 2030, the new national heritage plan which was launched last month,” he said.

Welcoming the announcement, Deputy Alan Dillon said “The protection of our built heritage was one of the priorities in the recently-published cross-government strategy for the protection of Ireland’s heritage, Heritage Ireland 2030.

"Furthermore, partnership is a key theme of Heritage Ireland 2030, and the BHIS is one of two built heritage funding schemes, run in association with the 31 local authorities and their architectural conservation officers and heritage officers, working in partnership with the department to protect our built heritage."
