Mayo hotel to host 300 Ukraine refugees
The Breaffy Woods Hotel has agreed to a request to host 300 refugees from war-torn Ukraine.
One hundred rooms have been allocated at the centre to help the women and children in their time of great need.
Over 200 have already arrived and a further 100 are expected by the end of the week.
Mr. Wilson Bird, manager of Breaffy House Hotel and Resort, which incorporates the Woods Hotel, said they are honoured and proud to be in a position to extend a hand of friendship to the families during such a difficult time in their lives.
He praised the local community for helping to make the transition as smooth as possible for the refugees.
Both Breaffy GAA Club and Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club have committed to running activity programmes for them.
A local bus operator, Michael Moran, is also providing a regular commuter service for them between Breaffy and Castlebar.
"The response has been tremendous and the Ukrainian people have been made to feel very welcome," added Mr. Bird.
