Fire on Mayo island is brought under control

A serious fire on Inishbiggle Island, off the coast of Achill, has been brought under control.

At around 6 p.m. yesterday, Achill Island Coast Guard were tasked to assist Achill Island Fire Service and Westport Fire Service in fighting the blaze.

The coast guard ferried fire services crew and their equipment from Bullsmouth Pier to the island.

After several hours the fire was brought under control with the help of a number of local volunteers.
