Issues on local roads around N5 Mayo project

A NUMBER of issues on local roads around the new N5 route have been raised by Castlebar area councillors.

Councillor Blackie Gavin told a municipal district meeting about a pothole on the Windsor Road that is a 'crater' and he asked that it be repaired as a matter of urgency.

That road, he said, is not fit to take extra traffic.

On the Belcarra road, traffic is being held up but there doesn't appear to be any work going on, said Councillor Cyril Burke. The full width of the road is available and he wanted to know what is happening there.

Councillor Donna Sheridan highlighted issues with the Derrywash Road, which is subsiding.

Cathaoirleach Councillor Martin McLoughlin agreed that road needs urgent attention. He asked the engineer to see what can be done immediately and further down the road an upgrade of it.

Senior engineer Anne Sweeney said the roads will be assessed for any damage caused and a report submitted to the roads office and TII with a view to getting funding for repairs. That assessment has started.
