The new yellow box at the top of Main Street is working well.

Issues with road markings around Castlebar highlighted

A NUMBER of areas of concern with regards road markings in the county town were raised at the monthly Castlebar Municipal District meeting.

Exiting from SuperValu onto Thomas Street is highly dangerous, said Councillor Blackie Gavin, who asked for markings to be put in for pedestrian safety.

The Pound Road junction coming out on the Newport Road, and also the pedestrian crossing on that road near the new cemetery, were highlighted by Councillor Ger Deere.

He asked also that the new pedestrian crossings on the Turlough Road be lit up.

On the turn into the car park from Castle Street, he said the kerb needs to be cut back as motorists were destroying their tyres where they hit it.

And also in that car park, the marked pedestrian route has faded and is dangerous and the markings for it need to be looked at.

A pedestrian crossing has also been requested for Richard Street where, said Councillor Gavin, traffic approaches the mini roundabout at speed.

Councillor Al McDonnell reported some good news: The new yellow box on the Castle Street/Main Street junction has traffic moving very well.

And Councillor Martin McLoughlin also welcomed the upgraded line markings at St. Gerald's College, which had alleviated problems there.
