East Mayo N5 junction closure decision deferred

NO decision has been made on a proposal to close the old bog road at Carrowbaun, Swinford, off the N5.

The extinguishment of rights of way on the road, the L13117, was on the agenda for the monthly Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting, however the item was deferred.

There have been local objections to the proposal.

The route connects the Swinford bypass and old Castlebar Road, near the Kiltimagh Road, and is used by motorists to get to Meelick and by local farmers.

Safety concerns are behind the proposal to close the junction.

Councillors have indicated they would consider closing the road but only if a bridge is put in place to deal with safety issues at the Swinford-Kiltimagh junctions
