Mayo TD to address Easter 1916 commemorations

Sinn Féin Easter 1916 commemorations take place in Achill and Castlebar tomorrow, Sunday, April 17.

“It’s a great honour to have Mayo’s first Sinn Féin TD in almost 100 years - Rose Conway-Walsh – speaking at both events,” said Brían MacSuibhne, chairperson of Mayo Sinn Féin.

“The Easter commemoration is a central focus on our year’s events, and it’s even more special having our own ‘home-grown’ TD – who also happens to be the first woman Sinn Féin TD in Mayo – as special guest.”

The Achill event assembles at Dookinella beach at 11 a.m. while the Castlebar event takes place at The Mall at 3 p.m. before proceeding to the Republican grave at the Old Cemetery in the town.

Other commemorations are also taking place around the county.
