Emergency services assist injured hill walker in north Mayo

EMERGENCY services responded to a call-out yesterday (Tuesday) evening after a hill walker sustained injuries in north Mayo.

Ballyglass Coast Guard volunteers along with Rescue 118 were tasked shortly before 5.30 p.m. by MRSC Malin following a request from the National Ambulance Service.

A hill walker had sustained lower leg injuries while out on the Carrowteige loop walk, two kilometres from the main road.

Emergency services had to track across bogland to reach the casualty while Rescue 118 landed close by.

Ballyglass Coast Guard reported on their social media how the casualty was assessed by paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to hospital for further treatment.

This was the second call-out for R118. Earlier the crew were tasked to airlift a casualty off Croagh Patrick who was then transferred to Mayo University Hospital.
