Exclusion will impact European infrastructural funding in northwest region

THE four MEPS who represent Mayo are being asked to set out funding streams for the county.

Concern has been expressed that an application for Ten-T funding excludes the entire northwest of the country for projects such as road, rail, broadband, climate change and deep sea ports.

Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry Murray said his information is that the region is excluded.

Speaking at a meeting of the local authority, he he called on his fellow members of Mayo County Council to lobby their Oireachtas representatives to have this decision reversed as it will have 'huge implications'.

Councillor Michael Loftus requested that the four MEPS - Luke 'Ming' Flanagan, Chris McManus, Colm Markey and Maria Walsh - would meet with them so they can explain what is the position on European funding streams.

“It is important we know where we stand,” he stated, and he would like to see a link being made with them in relation to the county.
