Semi-final heartbreak for Castlebar Celtic in Connacht Cup

Castlebar Celtic’s dreams of a record-breaking tenth Connacht Cup crown are on hold for another year after they fell to a semi-final defeat in extra time to Galway & Roscommon District outfit Ballinasloe Town.

Celtic were the better side in the first half and deserved their 1-0 lead at the break, which came through Jordan Loftus.

They failed to build on their display though and Ballinasloe Town's Jordan Carr equalised in the 56th minute.

Extra-time was needed to settle this one and Carr was the hero as he met Gary Egan's cross to head home the winner three minutes into the first period of extra time.
