Mayo group place in national Siansa competition

A YOUNG, talented group of musicians from Castlebar recently competed in the National Concert Hall in the prestigious Siansa Gael competition.

The name of the group is ‘Codraisc’ (a rowdy rabble) and they performed a 12 minute continuous piece of music.

Siansa is one of the country's most prestigious competitions for young traditional Irish music and singing groups.

The competition, which went out live on Radio na Gaeltachta, was of a very high standard and the group came in third place.

The group is made up of local musicians Cathal Walsh, Méabh Dunlop, Aodhán Hughes, Áine Fox, Lughaidh Swift, Catherine Joyce, Aibhe McBride and Hannah Lyons.

They are all members of The Rolling Waves and Kate Heneghan was their mentor for this competition.
