Major jobs boost imminent for Mayo as leading industry expands

MAYO'S county town is in line for a jobs boost.

Meissner Filtration Products are set to carry out a major expansion at their plant in Castlebar.

The company is about to submit an application to Mayo County Council for planning permission for a 16,374m addition to their facilities at the Castlebar Business and Technology Park in Drumconlan.

New jobs will follow as a result of the development.

A published planning notice outlines how an administrative office and warehousing facility expansion is being proposed, with an office building, roof plant area and warehouse, packaging, shipping and receiving areas.

The development also includes 215 car parking spaces - 29 of them with electric vehicle charging points.

Other environmental aspects in the plans include PV solar panels on the roof.

Meissner Filtration's manufacturing facility in Castlebar became operational two years ago.

It features a state of the art 930 m² (10,000 ft²) ISO class 7 cleanroom dedicated to the manufacture of Single-Use Systems. The company manufactures products for their biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical client base.

The existing overall manufacturing facility is over 3,900 m² and the company had its eye on the future when the plant became operational in 2020, with plans for a substantial size increase, with the initial ground work for this development beginning that year.
