Frustration about grants for septic tank repairs

HOME owners who want to fix septic tanks are being frustrated.

They can only get a grant towards the cost if they have had an official inspection.

Identify the faults yourself and you don't qualify for support.

The issue was highlighted by Councillor Ger Deere at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting.

"Unless you get picked for an inspection you cannot get a grant," he stated.

"If we are serious about the environment, people should be getting a grant if work is needed."

It is frustrating for people, he added, especially where many of them are elderly but they don't qualify unless they are inspected.
