Warm tribute to former chairman of Mayo Sub Aqua Club on his passing

A warm tribute has been paid to Patrick (Pat) O'Malley, Creggs Road, Ballina, and formerly of Main Street, Louisburgh, whose death has taken place.

The deceased had served as a member of Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club and Search and Rescue Recovery Unit for over 40 years.

In a tribute the club stated: "A cloud of great sadness has descended on our club since learning of the passing of Pat O’Malley.

"He served as chairperson of our club on a number of occasions along with holding many other positions on our committee at various times.

"Along with a few others, Pat was instrumental in putting in place the structure and foundations which has enabled our club to develop into the most wonderful club it is today.

"For over 40 years, Pat was a volunteer diver in our search and recovery unit.

"At times of unthinkable tragedy for families Pat was always one of the first to offer help and assistance and gave freely of his time on countless occasions.

"Pat was the epitome and true example of a gentleman. Pat always gave everything to whatever he did, whether that be club activities or his work.

"But most of all he was devoted to his family. To his wife Rosaleen, his sons Alan, Ronan and Shane, and his daughter Eimear, we are heartbroken for you all and our thoughts and prayers are with all at this time.

"Pat will be forever remembered by everyone in Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club. May his gentle soul rest in peace."

Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul takes place this morning (Tuesday) at 11 o'clock at St. Patrick's Church, Louisburgh, with funeral proceeding afterwards to Mount Jerome Crematorium, Dublin, arriving for 4.15 p.m.

Predeceased by his parents Paddy and Kay, sisters Mary and Anne, he is survived by his wife Rosaleen, sons Alan (Dublin), Ronan (Dublin) and Shane (Ballina), daughter Eimear (Dublin), brothers Martin and Michael, sister Evelyn, daughter-in law Ciara, mother-in-law Bríd, grandchildren Josh, Alex and Oliver, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
