76-house development planned for north Mayo town

A MAJOR housing development is proposed on the Killala Road in Ballina.

It will involve the demolition of the Cheshire Home and construction of 76 new residential units.

A planning application in respect of the development has been submitted to Mayo County Council by McGrath Group Properties.

The company is seeking permission for the following works: demolition of existing Cheshire Home building, two storage sheds, adjoining apartment unit and detached dwelling house; construction of 76 residential units consisting of one apartment block providing for 10 one-bedroom units, nine terrace blocks providing for 33 two-bedroom units, 13 semi-detached blocks providing for 26 three-bedroom units, and seven four-bedroom detached units.

The proposal also includes the construction of two separate internal road networks - the first internal road network is proposed to connect with the existing road network serving the adjacent Rockwell housing estate, with the second internal road network proposed to connect to the public road through the existing entrance to the Cheshire Home on Killala Road.
