Mayo call to support 'Cost of Living' protest campaign

An appeal has been issued to the Mayo public to support a new movement seeking to tackle the cost of living crisis.

The 'Cost of Living' Coalition is planning to hold a demonstration outside Dáil Éireann on May 19 as it builds momentum for a big march in Dublin on Saturday, June 18.

People before Profit Mayo spokesman Joe Daly stated: “This coalition could potentially be more powerful than the water movement.

"It will be crucial for working people being pulverised by inflation and profiteering.

"I urge them to show a united front on this cost of living crisis which is forcing many families to choose between heating or eating.

“With general inflation set to reach at least 8% this year and the latest predictions that diesel and electricity could double or even treble in price because of the EU embargo on oil and gas from Russia, there is an urgent need for action.

“Working families, small businesses and farmers are being crippled by these price increases by highly profitable energy and fossil fuel corporations.

"The government has only tinkered around the edges while allowing these opportunists to pocket a huge windfall from the Ukrainian war and the supply problems created by the pandemic.

"We call on all people suffering to join and actively support this important movement.”
