Plaque unveiled to volunteers who died in Islandeady Ambush 101 years ago

Islandeady Heritage Group has unveiled a plaque at the Memorial Cross in Cloonkeen in the parish.
The plaque in English transcribing the old Irish text from the memorial cross at Islandeady.
On May 6, 1921, West Mayo Brigade volunteers Thomas O'Malley and Thomas Lally were tragically killed by the Black and Tans in what has become known as the Islandeady Ambush.
Phil Lally Gibbons, Frances Lally and Gay Lally, descendents of Thomas Lally, who laid a wreath at the memorial.
Exactly 101 years later to the day a plaque was unveiled in English transcribing the old Irish text from the memorial cross.
