Driving test pass rates in Mayo above average

The driving test pass rate at the Mayo centres in Ballina and Castlebar are above the national average.

Castlebar has a success rate of 59.54 - the 15th highest for a centre in the country - while Ballina's rate is 55.35.

The average pass rate at the country’s 63 testing centres is just over 53%.

New figures released to Newstalk under the Freedom of Information Act show revealed less than 40% of people taking the test in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, passed.

That's the lowest pass rate in the country.

The pass rate in Loughrea, Co. Galway, was nearly twice as high at 75% - the highest success rate in Ireland.

The data highlights a big urban/rural divide – with five of the six lowest pass rates recorded at centres in Dublin.

Three of the top five pass rates were recorded in Galway, with one in Dublin and one in Cavan.
