Mayo garda alert issued over bogus emails threatening arrest

Gardaí in Mayo have issued an alert to the public over bogus emails which have caused anxiety to a number of people across the county.

The email, which claims to be a judicial summons from the European Federation of Police, working in conjunction with An Garda Siochána, makes unfounded claims that the recipient has been detected of committing very serious crimes on the internet.

The scam correspondence further states that an arrest warrant will be issued within 24-hours unless they reply to the allegations made against them via a link.

A garda spokesman stated the emails are causing distress and a number of complaints have been received from concerned citizens.

The gardaí advice to those across the county receiving such an email is to delete it immediately and never, ever click on such a link.
