Extensive road works taking place in busy Mayo town

Extensive road works are taking place in the town of Foxford town over the next three to four weeks.

The N58 (Castlebar Road) road from the junction with Hawthorn Hill, through Main Street as far as Guiry's corner, is being completely relaid with strengthening and finishing courses.

When this section is complete, the N26 from the junction with Pontoon Road, across the bridge and finishing at O'Hara's centre and the library, will also be relaid with strengthening and finishing courses also.

There will be diversions and consequent traffic delays.

The works are being completed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day to minimise disruptions.

Local Councillor Neil Cruise said it is necessary to carry put these works at this time of year as the ground temperatures are far more favourable and this will give a much better chance of completing the works successfully, thus lasting a lot longer.

"These works are another very significant investment in our road infrastructure in the Foxford area.

"Please accept apologies in advance for any inconvenience caused," he added.
