Air and chair upgrades for Mayo's council chamber

AN upgrade of the air conditioning system in the county council chamber at Áras an Chondae in Castlebar is being looked at.

And at least one new chair is also needed.

Councillor Patsy O'Brien found himself sitting on one that he declared 'unfit for purpose' at the May monthly meeting, noting how it tends to get switched around by people who arrive early.

His observation was met with a quip across the council floor: 'There's no such thing as a safe seat.'

Councillor Ger Deere noted how the air in the council chamber was 'terrible' and something needs to be done about it.

He was speaking at the second full meeting to take place in the Áras since Covid restrictions have eased. Up to this meetings have been held in very spacious Royal Theatre.

Director of services Catherine McConnell said they were looking for quotes for upgrading the air conditioning and air quality in the building.
