New base for Calvary Mission in Mayo's county town

A VACANT former retail premises in the heart of Castlebar is to get a new lease of life thanks to a religious body.

The Calvary Mission Trustees have been granted planning for a change of use from retail of the former Baby Care shop on Upper Chapel Street for community social and recreational activities.

Ground floor plans include seating for 85 people in an assembly hall, with a community area on the first floor.

A council planning report noted how places of worship are open for consideration in town centre zoning.

Mayo County Council had no objection with the proposed development.
