Good news for Mayo on injury front

Mayo senior football team manager James Horan has confirmed that there's good news on the injury front ahead of the All-Ireland SFC qualifier against Monaghan on Saturday week.

In a media briefing this afternoon, he explained that just one member of his panel, Michael Plunkett, is out of contention for the game in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park on June 4.

Horan said: “We've had a few knocks and bangs, as every team has, but we had a lot of guys back last night so we're shaping up well.”

One of those back was Oisin Mullin, who departed the field with what looked like a hamstring injury against Galway in Mayo's last competitive outing. Horan said Mullin trained last night and is fine.

It's not quite as clear cut with Ryan O'Donoghue, who is 'not fully back on the field yet' but pushing to be ready for the Monaghan game.

Aside from that, the panel is as it was for the Galway game in the Connacht championship and the group, said Horan, are 'keen to push on'.

“We're just working away. We're trying to get better. We've worked hard and we're still working hard. We're really looking forward to it, to be honest,” the Mayo manager concluded in anticipation of the Monaghan clash.
