Popular west Mayo restaurant launches evening dining

THE Creel in Westport, loved by locals and tourists for its brunch, lunch and deli offering, has introduced a new casual dining dinner menu, available at weekends during the summer season and on bank holidays.

Westport native Aoife O’Neill left a career as a medical scientist in haematology and blood transfusion in the HSE to take over The Creel in 2016.

Occupying a prime location overlooking Westport Harbour and Clew Bay, The Creel is a bright and airy building, catering for 80 diners indoors and a further 30 diners outdoors in covered pods. At night, the venue offers warm hospitality and a relaxed dining experience that’s perfect for families or get-togethers with friends.

Everything at The Creel is sourced locally where possible and cooked from scratch in The Creel kitchen, led by head chef Katie Hyman. Diners can expect a menu based around fresh, seasonal produce offering a twist on some classic dishes along with popular street food options.

Sample small plates include Cajun Style Prawns with Creole Sauce, €9; Crispy Cauliflower Bites, €7.50; and Caesar Fries, €6.50; while sample big plates include Fish Tacos, €14.50; Jerk Chicken Skewers, €15; and Orzotto, €14. The Creel also serves an extensive children’s menu along with a dedicated vegan and gluten-free menu.

The menu is complemented by craft beer on tap from Roscommon’s Black Donkey Brewery and the Reel Deel Brewing Company in Crossmolina, with Mescan Blonde, Stout and Saison, brewed in Westport, available by the bottle. Wine is also served on tap while a range of natural and biodynamic wines are served by the bottle. Alternatively guests can choose from an extensive cocktail menu.

The Creel also makes seasonal cordials in-house to add to prosecco, including a Cherry Spritz, Blood Orange and Mint Spritz and a Passionfruit Spritz.

The Creel, The Quay, Westport, is open for brunch and lunch, Monday - Sunday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and dinner (bank holidays and summer season), Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 6 to 9 p.m.
