Big club move for Mayo star in Australia confirmed

Mayo star Aileen Gilroy has become the first Irish Australian FLW player to sign for Hawthorn FC, Melbourne.

The signing has been confirmed on the club's social media platforms.

The Killala ace has joined Hawthorn from North Melbourne, a club she joined in 2019, playing 28 games for the club as a defender.

“Aileen is one of the premier defenders in the AFLW and we’re thrilled to have her in the brown and gold in Season Seven,” stated Hawthorn club spokesman Mitchell Cashion.

“The standards and expectations Aileen provides will be really important to the growth of our group.”

Aileen, a former Irish soccer international, was a member of the Mayo team that reached the All-Ireland Ladies SFC final in 2017.
