Two arrested following Mayo stabbing incident

Two people have been arrested following a stabbing incident in a Castlebar town centre housing estate which left the victim with a serious arm injury.

A man and a woman, both visiting the town from the UK, were arrested by local gardaí after being called to the scene.

The man was subsequently charged under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 and scheduled to appear before today's sitting of Ballina District Court.

The woman was charged with minor assault and released on station bail to appear before a local district court sitting on a date to be fixed.

The victim of the attack, visiting Castlebar from England, received medical care at Mayo University Hospital.
