Residents concern over Mayo quarry blasting, odour and emissions

Mayo TD Alan Dillon has scheduled an urgent meeting with residents of Moneen, Castlebar, in a bid to assist them resolve complaints arising from blasting, odour and emissions from a major local quarry also affecting residents in the townlands of Aughaluskey and Liscromwell.

The residents have submitted a number of queries and complaints to Mayo County Council regarding the impact of blasting and emissions as far back as 2018 but to date have not received any response on their investigation to complaints made.

Deputy Dillon said: “I understand this is a complex matter, but Mayo County Council has completely failed in their approach to review the concern of the residents in relation to blasting and odour and emissions.

“Four years on the residents still await the conclusions of investigations undertaken by Mayo County Council's planning and environmental sections and possible meeting date with senior officials to review its findings.

"I have written to the chief executive of Mayo County Council requesting an interim report on the investigation, actions completed as part of the compliant review process, outstanding items, level of engagement Mayo County Council has had with the quarry and when Mayo County Council senior management will afford a meeting with local residents,” Deputy Dillon added.

The meeting to help resolve the matter is scheduled for Thursday afternoon and all local elected representatives and media have been invited to attend.
