Councillor Al McDonnell

Irish Water not responding to councillor’s correspondence

IRISH Water have been taken to task by a councillor for not responding to correspondence in relation to constituents.

Councillor Al McDonnell's gripe concerns a widow who was billed for an agricultural supply and has now received a solicitor's letter from the utility.

The lady in question has a domestic supply. There was once an agricultural supply, he told a Castlebar Municipal District meeting.

She has been receiving a bill on a regular basis for over €400.

The councillor wrote a 'strong letter' explaining the situation but got no response.

The bills, he said, continued.

Councillor McDonnell said he wrote a second letter and that was 'treated with equal contempt'.

He has learned recently that the lady has received a solicitor's letter to pay the bill.

Councillor McDonnell has asked council management to write to Irish Water with the specific details of the case condemning this situation.
