Anger over snub of Mayo councillors for Céide Fields event

The new state-of-the-art visitor centre at the Céide Fields was officially opened earlier this month - but no-one from Ballina Municipal District was invited.

It was shoddy and not good enough, said Councillor Annie May Reape.

The head of Ballina MD, Declan Turnbull, who agreed that it wasn't ideal, surmised that maybe the OPW (which has control over the Ceide Fields) did not want large crowds at the opening as a follow-on from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Councillors Seamus Weir and Michael Loftus backed Councillor Reape in her assertion that it wasn't good enough, with her Fianna Fáil colleague (Councillor Loftus) suggesting a letter should be sent to the OPW pointing out the dissatisfaction of Ballina MD.
