Concern at delay in delivering council housing projects in Mayo

THE length of time it takes to complete council-led housing projects is a source of concern to councillors.

In Castlebar, four one-bedroom apartments on Charles Street have a finishing date of March 2024.

In Carnacon, a recently approved nine-house project also has a completion date of March '24.

Speaking at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting, Councillor Michael Kilcoyne said no matter how much he stretches his imagination, he cannot understand how it will take 21 months to build the apartments on Charles Street.

On the Carnacon development, it is six years since the first site inspection took place, said Councillor Al McDonnell.

Surely the process could be expedited, he said, as it was crucial that they be completed by the autumn of 2023.
