Minister Feighan pays visit to Family Centre
THE Family Centre in Castlebar has welcomed Minister of State for Public Health, Well-being and the National Drugs Strategy, Frank Feighan, who was joined on his visit by Deputy Alan Dillon and Senator Paddy Burke.
The visit was an opportunity to hear about the work of the Family Centre from Máire Ní Dhomhnaill, director, and Michael Burke, clinical psychologist with the social prescribing link workers.
Minister Feighan had a particular interest in the Flourish social prescribing service.
Flourish was the first social prescribing service in Ireland which began and was delivered by the Family Centre from 2012. The model that was developed influenced the current model as per the new national framework.
This service connects people with courses, activities, hobbies, groups, music, art and creativity, etc., to support them with their health and well-being. It also re-connects people to their community.
Flourish is one of the services provided by the Family Centre. To learn more, to speak to a link worker, and to hear about all the centre's services, check it out on www.thefamilycentre.com or contact them on (094) 9025900.
