National Lottery winner from Mayo claims €0.5 million prize

There was huge excitement in the National Lottery's winners' room this afternoon as two separate winners from Mayo and Kildare picked up a combined €1 million in prizes which they won in EuroMillions and scratch card games.

The Mayo winner scooped the €500,000 top prize in the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday, June 21, having purchased their quick-pick ticket at the Maxol Service Station on the Newport Road, Westport.

The winner, who wishes to keep the win private, said: “I’m completely gobsmacked! It’s only really starting to sink in now. It’s not a life-altering sum of money but it’s an ideal amount for me to make some nice changes to my life.

“First and foremost, I’m looking forward to paying off the rest of my mortgage and helping some family members out. It’s a lovely sum to win, but I'm going to keep working and keep life going as normal as possible. I might start looking into a last-minute holiday to celebrate the win in style and soak up some sun too.”

Also claiming a substantial prize from Lottery HQ was a Kildare player who won the top prize of €500,000 on a €20 All Cash Extravaganza scratch card. The winner, who also wishes to keep the win private, purchased the scratch card at Steve’s Daybreak, Main Street, Newbridge, Co. Kildare.

Meanwhile, excitement is already building throughout the country as Friday’s EuroMillions jackpot is set to roll towards an estimated €230 million. Tickets can be purchased ahead of the 7.30 p.m. cut-off time for sales in-store, through the National Lottery app or online at www.lottery.ie.
