Stunning new Mayo bridge on N26 nears completion

The new Cloongullane Bridge on the N26 near Swinford has opened to traffic.

But a one-way system is in operation until all works are fully completed by contractors, BAM Civil Ltd.

The project, managed by the Mayo National Roads Office, included the realignment of 1.8 kms. of the N26 national primary road between Swinford and Foxford.

The new bridge over the environmentally sensitive River Moy replaces a former stone arch bridge.

The improvement scheme included sections of the road that approach Cloongullane Bridge.

The new bridge and other works will improve the overall safety for road users and reduce the number of collisions along this section of the N26.

The bridge comprises a single span of 83.1 metres over the River Moy.

It is a steel composite beam structure with reinforced concrete abutments.
