Work taking place on another section of the Castlebar Urban Greenway, off Bridge Street.

Mayo county town’s urban greenway making further progress

Works on the urban greenway in Castlebar are progressing steadily.

The pedestrian access from Bridge Street into the Barrack Street section of the route is currently closed to facilitate works.

This is a very important phase of the project as it’s a direct link with the existing section leading into Main Street and Linenhall Street from Newtown and the riverside walk leading to Lough Lannagh.

When completed, there will be a infrastructural connection between the Lough Lannagh walk and the greenway route to Turlough for the first time.

Extensive works have been completed at Springfield, creating a safer and more visible access to the Turlough greenway, starting at the Town Park.

This will be particularly welcome for visitors to the town enjoying the pathway for the first time.

The next phase will see a link created with the Mall, the town’s showpiece.

There are also proposals to extend the Lough Lannagh section into Bilberry Lake while there are long-term plans to link into the Westport to Achill route via Islandeady.
