Contractor appointed to south Mayo smarter travel project

A local contractor has been appointed to construct phase one of the Ballinrobe Smarter travel programme.

The announcement has been made by Councillor Michael Burke.

The route, which will consist of a walking/cycle path, will start at the primary care centre on the Claremorris Road and proceed through the Ballinrobe Community School playing fields.

Councillor Burke said: "This will make walking and cycling to both St. Joseph’s National School and Ballinrobe Community School from that side of town a much safer route.

"Well done to everyone involved in bringing the project this far and I look forward to when the route will go all the way to Station Road, servicing the Lakeside Sports centre and Ballinrobe GAA Club."
