Castlebar in mourning over passing of Pat Flanagan

The town of Castlebar is mourning the death of Pat Flanagan, 15 Rathbawn Drive, and formerly of Newtown, Castlebar.

A widely popular and respected personality, the deceased had a long association with Castlebar Golf Club, both as a player and an administrator.

Pat reported regularly over the years on local golfing activities for Community Radio Castlebar (CRCfm), his knowledge of the sport at all levels being extensive.

In his youth he starred with Castlebar Celtic FC, winning many titles with the club.

Aged in his 80s, he was a former member of the staff of the old Hat Factory at Newport Road in the town.

Predeceased by his wife Angela, parents Jack and Annie and his sister Angela, Pat is deeply regretted by his heartbroken family Anne, Noel and Clara, sister Peggy Lee (Castlebar), brother John (Ennis), grandchildren Aaron and Conor, sons-in-law Mihail and Sean, daughter-in-law Mary, brother-in-law Paraic, sister-in-law Patsy, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Remains reposing at Coady’s Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5.30 to 7 p.m.

Funeral cortége will arrive at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Friday morning at 11.15 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m.

Pat will be laid to rest afterwards in the Old Cemetery.
