Brushing Aside the Pandemic Mayo art exhibition

A GROUP of artists in east Mayo are set to unveil a special art exhibition, which evolved when they were forced to meet online during the Covid lockdown.

In 2017 an art group was established in Charlestown Town Hall, meeting regularly every Wednesday until the pandemic struck.

Not wanting to disconnect with each other, they continued to meet digitally each week on a WhatsApp group call and decided to do a given prompt every week, with the art being uploaded onto the Charlestown Town Hall Facebook page. It proved hugely popular and successful.

With restrictions being eased the group have now resumed their in-house art sessions in the town hall and have welcomed many new members onboard.

Having amassed many pieces of art, the group are holding an exhibition of their original work in Charlestown Town Hall from Wednesday, July 27, to Sunday, August 7. Opening hours are 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. (Closed Monday and Tuesdays).

The exhibition is aptly named Brushing Aside the Pandemic - our Covid project.

The majority of the art will be for sale with prices to suit all budgets.

The exhibiting artists are Angela Duffy, Anita Healy, Pauline Walsh Gilmartin, Clare Duffy, Jacqueline Latraille, Johanna Holmstedt, Manuel Santiago, Ciara Walsh and Carol Beirne.

So, if you are looking for an original masterpiece or would like to just come along and view their work, please feel free to join them on the above days.
