Works underway at former Volex site in Mayo

THERE is work going on at the former Volex site at Breaffy Road in Castlebar.

It was confirmed by Councillor Blackie Gavin at a municipal district meeting where a colleague, Councillor Donna Sheridan, sought an update on what is happening at the building.

Her query came two years after plans were announced for the creation of 30 new jobs after a south Mayo group leased 3,573 square metres of the building from Mayo County Council to establish a mechanical engineering offsite and fabrication facility at the location.

Her information was that there is still no one working there and nothing happening.

Councillor Gavin informed the meeting there is work going on.

He was on the site two days previously and there is work going on.

A specialised machine is going in.
