Mayo initiative to re-introduce women to the power of outdoor sports

Mayo Sports Partnership in collaboration with stakeholders and partners across the county are delighted to announce that 18 events are now available for booking as part of Sport Ireland HER Outdoors Week from August 8 to 14.

Partners include Mountaineering Ireland, Achill Outdoor Adventure Centre, Ballina and Castlebar Adventure Hubs, Ballina Rowing Club, Mayo Bulls and Inline Hockey Club and Swim Ireland.

HER Outdoors Week is an opportunity to re-ignite and re-introduce females to the power of outdoor sports.

Following on from a very successful event last year, this year will be no different and is an opportunity for all females to escape to the outdoors and try something new.

In Mayo, there are so many incredible outdoor activities on offer so let’s celebrate the outdoors.

Activities incorporate rock climbing, navigation skills, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, surfing, rowing, snorkelling and roller skating.

Places are limited in each event so to book your place go to the Mayo Sports Partnership website https://www.mayo.ie/sportspartnership and download the HERS Outdoor event poster.

Hover over the event and click to proceed to booking.

Please note that some event bookings are by email to the supplier or through an Eventbrite link.

All events are organised by our partners so any queries should be sent directly to the supplier.

Mayo Sports Partnership chairman, Councillor Michael Loftus, commented: “We are lucky here in Mayo that we have so many outdoor providers giving opportunities for the public to experience our natural environment.

"I thank the support we have received from Sport Ireland in devising and promoting the wonderful programme that has been put together by our staff along with our outdoor adventure stakeholders."

Sports Partnership head Charlie Lambert added: “Increasing women’s participation in sport is a key Mayo Sports Partnership strategic objective and we are delighted to offer HER Outdoors through our Women in Sport lead Deirdre Donnelly.

"Along with our committee and staff Deirdre has initiated many programmes giving girls and women opportunities to experience all types of sport.”
