Fourth place for Mayo runner in EYOF 3,000m run

Mayo athlete Clodagh Gill finished an incredible fourth in the 3,000m final at the 2022 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival at Banská Bystrica, Slovakia.

After the race, Clodagh – who clocked a personal best time of 9:47.25 – said she was nervous going into the event but got some reassurance from her coach, Philip Finnerty.

“At the tent, I wasn't feeling too good, but I went out on the track and I saw my coach, and he gave me a little wink.”

Clodagh's parents, Peter and Loretta, were at the track in Slovakia for the race.

Her club, Moy Valley AC, said: “A great achievement by Clodagh in this prestigious competition. What a brilliant experience.”

St. Mary's Secondary School, Ballina, also congratulated their student on the result.

Local TD Dara Calleary (Fianna Fáil) recognised the achievement as well, saying: “Congratulations Clodagh and also your family, coaches and colleagues in the club.”
