Historic first for soccer in Mayo

Castlebar Town and Swinford have reached The Acres Killala Mayo Women's League Senior Cup final.

Both came through fantastic semi-finals at the weekend, with one going to a sudden death penalty shootout after each team had nine penalties taken.

The Acres Killala Mayo Women's League Senior Women’s Cup final will be played in Solar 21 Park, Milebush, Castlebar, on Sunday, September 4, kicking off at 3 p.m.

In what will be a historic first for soccer in Mayo, this game will be part of a double header in conjunction with the Mayo Football League.

The Mayo Football League Under 21 Cup final will precede The Acres Killala Mayo Women's League Senior Women’s Cup Final that day.

“This is indeed a fantastic display of the cooperation between both leagues, who both strive to promote the beautiful game of soccer in Mayo.

"In what promises to be a showcase of the very best of Mayo soccer, we would invite all to come and witness the fantastic displays of football which are promised,” said a Mayo Women's League spokesperson.
